
Photon etc. is proud to announce the release of the ZephirTM 2.5 MCT Camera, the fastest affordable SWIR camera on the market. Based on a 320x256 HgCdTe FPA, ZephirTM offer a high quantum efficiency on the range 0.8 to 2.5 µm and most importantly an unmatched frame rate of 346 Hz.
First developed for industrial imaging applications requiring high-speed, this camera is now available in its C-Mount version or including a standard objective with 16 mm focal length and a field-of-view of 33.4 x 27 degree. The low dark current and readout noise of ZephirTM allow longer acquisition times than other SWIR cameras (1 µs to 150 ms), making it an ideal tool for low-light scientific and hyperspectral imaging.
Two distinct hyperspectral systems were developed based on this camera, S-EOSTM and a line-scan system. S-EOSTM is a widefield imaging system constinuously tunable over the range 1 to 2.5 µm with a FWHM < 4 nm. From bio-medical applications to material analysis, S-EOSTM will help discover uncharted scientific discoveries. On the other hand, our line-scan spectrograph based system is the perfect device too for sorting or quality control applications.

Photon etc. Announces the LLTF ContrastTM, the Ideal Supercontinuum Tunable Filter
Montreal, QC – Photon etc. is proud to announce the release of the LLTF ContrastTM, the only widely tunable filter offering - 60dB of isolation. Specially designed to filter Fianium’s high-power supercontinuum sources, the latest innovation provides minimal losses to get a tunable laser source with maximal power over the whole VIS-NIR range or the extended SWIR range. Serving more than supercontinuum filtering, the LLTF Contrast can as well be customized to Ti:sapph lasers tuning range and bandwidth (< 0.4 nm), removing the unwanted fluorescence from the source to get a clean excitation line.
Based on Photon etc.’s patented technology, the LLTF has been a high value-added product for several years, but the recent increase in accessible power for supercontinuum sources (up to 10W) triggered an improved design. In addition to raising the damage threshold and giving a better look to the tunable filter, Photon etc’s engineers have also enhanced the control of the instrument and eased its integration with Fianium sources, turning it into a very accessible turn-key solution.
Scientists of a wide variety of fields will benefit from these improvements, first because of the high-power distribution when combined to a supercontinuum source (up to 5 mW/selected position), but also because of the unmatched isolation (-60dB) of the filter. Giving access to highly isolated excitation opens new possibilities for researchers working on carbon nanotubes,?fluorescence imaging or metrology. Furthermore, PHySpecTM, Photon etc’s proprietary control software, allows the smoothest guidance for wavelength selection and calibration. In line with Photon etc’s committment to innovation, many custom options are offered: internal calibration, order filters, custom bandwidth or spectral range.

The new version of the Leukos SM-100 supercontinuum source is based on a 1064 nm pump laser and features an improved spectral broadening. This source delivers the best sub-nanosecond flat supercontinuum laser solution on the market. With a repetition rate of 125 kHz, the advanced spectral bandwidth covers from 420 nm to 2300 nm, with a total average power higher than 300 mW. Developed specifically to answer the OCT applications, the new SM-100 is available with free running trigger or as a triggered laser, with a trigger input to simplify synchronization operation.

A new type of Raman hyperspectral imager based on Bragg tunable filters was developed by Photon etc. and the University of Montreal. With efficiency up to 90% and high spectral and spatial resolutions, this technology dramatically reduces the acquisition time, allowing for non-destructive molecular analysis with high sensitivity. The principle of this novel Raman hyperspectral imaging system and the preliminary images of a Si/Ti structured wafer have been presented at SPIE Photonics West 2012.

In the November 2009 edition of Laser Focus World, an article mentioned that the out-of-band suppression of tunable laser based on supercontinuum sources is only possible in the order of 10-4. Photon etc's tunable laser source has a measured out-of-band rejection in the order of 10-6 and would be potentially better if our measurement system were not limited by the noise floor of our optical spectrum analyzer.

Dr. Sébastien Blais-Ouellette, the Founder of Photon etc, has been granted a US patent for a "Method and Apparatus for a Bragg Grating Tunable Filter". This technolofy was developed by Dr. Blais-Ouellette while working at the renowned California Institute of Technology (CALTECH), and has been commercialized by Photon etc., which is the exclusive licensee of the patent.

Abstract
The present invention relates to tunable filters. More specifically, the present invention pertains to a method and apparatus that allows tuning of a wavelength over a large optical band. The disclosed system and method allows an arbitrary wavelength selection of an incoming beam of light. The disclosed system and method may be used in imaging systems like teloscopes or microscopes, or for point sources like laser or optical fibers. Further, in the case of optical fibers, it may be used as an add/drop filter.
Photon etc. is partnering with IRDEP and CNRS (National Center of Scientific Research) to develop a unique optical instrument for characterization of large size photovoltaics. Based on volume Bragg gratings, Photon etc’s hyperspectral technology allows the collection of complete spectral images of large samples, replacing the time-consuming x-y scanning spectroscopy. The technology is perfectly matched for the increasing demand for fast and efficient QC in the solar cell industry.
Due to the increasing demand for clean energies, the photovoltaic market is one of the fastest growing markets in high-tech devices. The instrument is particularly adapted to thin-film PVs, the most promising candidate for low-cost solar generation of electricity. The mapping system will capture errors at an early stage of fabrication, lowering the number of defective cells and the overall fabrication cost.

ABSTRACT
EMCCDs are plagued by an excess noise factor (ENF) which has the same effect as if the QE would be halved. To get rid of the ENF, the photon counting (PC) operation is mandatory, with the drawback of counting only one photon per pixel per frame. The high frame rate capability of the EMCCDs comes to the rescue, at the price of increased clock induced charges (CIC). The CIC can be greatly reduced with an appropriate clocking, which renders the PC operation of the EMCCD very efficient for faint flux photometry or spectroscopy, adaptive optics, ultrafast imaging and Lucky Imaging. This clocking is achievable with a new EMCCD controller: CCCP, the CCD Controller for Counting Photons.
The results obtained at the telescope are presented in this paper.

ABSTRACT
Recent advances in photosensitive glass and holographic recording technologies open new possibilities for astronomical
instrumentation. We have developed novel instrument concepts using thick Volume Phase Holographic
gratings: a multiband filter for OH line suppression and a single order, widely tunable filter. We present these
technologies along with other current and future uses of these promising holographic gratings.

ABSTRACT
Near-infrared emission from atmospheric OH radicals is known to severely affect astronomical observations. Until
now, only complex dispersive instruments were partially capable of removing this unwanted background, which
is composed of hundreds of narrow emission lines. Recent development in photosensitive glass and holographic
recording technologies now allow the elaboration of filters with a large number of narrow reflecting bands well
matched to OH lines. This technology shows promise for removing many tens of lines in the J, H, and K bands.
That would result in a many fold increase in imaging and low resolution signal-to-noise ratio. Filters with 10
lines have been tested and show the appealing possibilities of these new devices.

ABSTRACT
A novel concept for a very efficient tunable filter for the optical and near infrared is proposed. The filter consists
of two parallel volume phase holographic Bragg gratings used in a dispersion-recombination configuration. The
passband profile is determined by the first order grating efficiency curve which changes in wavelength according
to the angle of incidence. The filter can be continuously tuned over ranges of wavelengths larger than 600 nm
by adjusting the tilt of the gratings, while bandwidth can be selected between 0.1 and 200 nm. The conceptual
design is presented, along with predicted performances. Potentially useful instruments for large volume surveys
and targeted observations are explored, along with application in areas other than astronomy.
