Drone detection performance in the reflective bands: visible, near infrared, short wave infrared, and extended short wave infrared

Authors Joshua Follansbee, Lindsey Wiley, Patrick Leslie, Charles Revello, Ronald Driggers

Abstract

The article examines target detection using drones in various reflective bands, with a particular focus on the short-wave infrared (SWIR) band. The study highlights the advantages of SWIR, including increased atmospheric transmission and object-sky contrast, making it suitable for low-illumination conditions. The Zephir 2.5 camera is used for imaging in the SWIR band. The research emphasizes the significance of pixel pitch and contrast for imaging performance across all bands.
